Since Krieg Fields is sadly out of commission for the next 6 months, we are forced to re-locate to another field. The good news is that the new fields are extremely nice, a little more expensive but not that horribly far away.

REMINDER: BE THERE AT 8PM SHARP! Here's why:

We are continuing our policy for new players and new time-schedule. If you have played Mojo before, show up on time and we will simply start a quick 2 inning game for veterans as soon as enough people show up. Meanwhile, the new people will be able to watch what is going on and see how things work while the game is explained to them. This way, there's more Mojo for experienced players and there is less explanation time for the new players. Win, win.

If you're a big nerd, you're aware of the LHC super collider in Switzerland, which will begin it's tests on Sept 10th -- the day after this Mojo. There is an astronomically low chance that the collider will produce a black hole that will suck up the earth and all it's inhabitants. But I say let's use that time to panic! Panic by playing Mojo on your last full day on earth that is. Wheeeeeeeee!

But in a few months, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mojo Kickball, Palo Alto being a hunormous (yeah, it's a word ..) hit.

So if you would like to make your going away speeches, or break out the champagne, then swing on by and kick a ball or two. (Not Evan's)

The cooler times of the evening is sure a lot better than a hot mid-day mojo. So let's keep it up. It was starting to get pretty dark out last time, so we're moving everything up by 30 minutes.

This last game was uber-fantastic. We had tons of new people, many of whom caught on pretty quickly. And everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the next one too.

"Exhibition" night games are coming after this Mojo so look for a separate evite for those.

Google Groups doesn't like it when we simply add people directly to the group. So we'll be sending out an invitation to be part of the Mojo kickball Group. Don't worry. It's announce-only, so you can only expect emails from Mojo Kickball when they're important. Promise.

Mojo Kickball is in transition to newer times for the summer and cooler temperatures. Because oh my god, Texas is hot at 1pm. This week we will be starting at 6:00 for new players and 6:30pm for the official Mojo Game.

ADDITIONALLY, we are going to start looking to have actual night games (read: "lit field") every other Tuesday night at the Krieg Fields. Essentially making weekly Mojo a reality for the summer. Hooray! Since the Krieg fields can only be reserved one week in advance, we won't be able to have solid times for the new weekday games so those will be "best-effort" exhibition events when we have them.

We'll keep you updated through the Mojo Kickball Google Group, which looks like the best way for us to send communique's to the group that are not Evites.

I'm not kidding. This is not a joke. April Fools Day just happened to be when Mojo was scheduled. The only fooling that will be going on will be one team fooling the other team into giving up runs.

And possibly the pantsing of Chris Trew. But that would be more of a joke on us than on him, I think.

Good strategies last game, folks. We like to see people stepping up and coming with new ways to dominate. I especially liked the idea of teams having their own Offensive and Defensive Captains.

In case you're wondering about the name. Is it Moped Dojo? Mo Pedojo? Mope Do Jo?. Yes, all of those are correct. This weekend we are happy to have members of the South By South Moped Rally who are finishing up their rally at the Mojo Kickball field and plan on bringing their game.

In regards to the last game, I must say it was good to see mojo back up to its old numbers. This past Sunday, we had an exhibition game in Dallas. It was fantastic. It definitely gave us a chance to practice explaining all the rules to a group that was 100% comprised of new people. And I think we're getting a lot better at it. All without boring everyone to tears. :)

But that's over and we're back. And boy are we. Bring it!

We're still playing at these new fields. I've been told that our permanent field on Sundays at 1-3 will be the large field, called "Mendoza".

We had some low turn out last time but had fun nonetheless. It's time to start picking this back up! Days are getting warmer and none of us is getting any skinnier.. or younger for that matter.

Additionally, as the weather clears up, you can start to expect us to start playing either a real game or a practice every sunday from 1-3, depending on conditions.

I should mention that there is some grass on the infield and it can get a little slick, so if you have turf cleats or something a little grippy, bring it. But it's not that big of a deal. I'll still be in sneakers.

New Time! New Field! (kinda)

Well to be honest. If you were at the last Mojo Kickball, the field is not new. Otherwise, NEW FIELD! NEW FIELD!

Those of you who were around for the last game will remember there was some confusion about the availability of the field we were on. Well no worries. I met with all the coaches from the other teams and they know what I look like now, so there shouldn't be any more confusion.

Our normal field is the nice field at the back of the complex. Called "Cappucino" after the very very very nice man who is allowing us to play there as we get Mojo established. But, in the event that there is a playoff game, I was told that we would have the big field. Hoo-rah!

Additionally, as the weather clears up, you can start to expect us to start playing either a real game or a practice every sunday from 1-3, depending on conditions.

WOW! It's been way too long. But nearly everytime there's been an opportunity for Mojo, the weather has said something different. Well we're back, we've got a new field to play on and we are totally ready to work off the Christmas ham.

Once again, I would like to stress that we are on a new field. It is very close to the Kreig fields only hidden away about a half mile away on Robert T. Martinez street.

Yay! We live in Texas where it's sunny in December. If you've been shopping and need a break, this is the way to do it. I don't think the rabid Christmas shoppers out there are anywhere near Krieg field, so give yourself a break.

The last game was once again fantastic. People came out and played like Champions on their second time out. Which is what usually happens - you become a veteran after playing one time. Good brains out there. Way to stay sharp.

This is the next official Mojo Kickball game. And it comes right after our early early morning rendezvous with News 8 Austin. We've switched to Saturday to see what the participation levels will be. Hopefully the weather won't be complete ass. But so far so good ont he weather at all of our other games.

You're eyes do not deceive you. That time says 5:45am. No kidding. But it's for a good cause!

Friday, November 3rd, Mojokickball goes live on the air as part of News8Austin's weekly segment, Fit for Friday, in which they profile a different sport in Austin every week. This is the follow-up to the taped segment on October 27th.

So what does that mean for you? Lay your athletic gear out the following night and swallow your chorizo and eggs early, mofos, 'cause this is MojoKickball bootcamp style! We need people at least 20 people who can play MojoKickball between 5:45am and 8:15am on Friday, November 3rd. That means you have to wake up early, pansy, 'cause the mojo can't wait until lunchtime.

If you can only make it for a 1 hour shift, that really helps us too, so please indicate that in your response. Just plan your life around MojoKickball and everything will work out great.

We just got word from News8Austin that they want to do a Fit for Friday segment on MojoKickball. It is scheduled to air next Friday, November 3, during their live morning show.

So what does that mean for you? It is means comb your hair, greaser, because you're going to be on tv! We need people, and we need them THIS FRIDAY, October 27. We need at least 20 people there between noon and 2pm for the initial taping. So take an extended lunch, or hell, bring your boss, or hell, bring the entire office. We need to blow this mutha out.

If you can only get away for an hour, 12-1pm or 1-2pm, that works too, so please indicate that in your response. Just make sure to take your athletic gear with you when you leave your house in the morning, and some perfume or cologne for your office return, and then come on over to the field for some Friday Mojo-fun.

We will be sending out another invitation shortly. That invitation is for the following Friday. We will need people to come out eeerlie in the mornin' for the live taping of their news show.

Mojo Kickball 9 - 'Experimental Trans-Mojutation' Sunday, Sep 24 - at 05:30 PM Krieg Softball Complex (Lefty) , Field #7,#8,#5 or next available.

The last game (Mojo Kickball 8) was the exact opposite of what we had in Mojo Kickball 7. We had a lot of experienced players and only 1 or 2 people who had never played before. Which was neat because we were able to skip through the practice game and head right into play.
Well done team "Why ya Cryin?". That was some good play on your part.

As more and more people play this game and get the general gist of it, I think we're going to speed up on our explanation of the rules and start talking more about tips and the intricacies of this game. Which means we can quit blabbing start playing Mojo a lot sooner. Yay!

Now for the other news: In the interest of keeping the game high-scoring, we've decided to once again experiment with the rules for this next game (just a little). Instead of having 5 bases, we have decided to see what happens if we just make 3rd base the last base. So if you're a runner and you make it to 3rd, you have scored. It keeps the sidelines uncluttered and makes it a little easier to score without totally giving the game up to the Kickers.
Also, the Outfield Chaser will now be able to go anywhere except the Infield Diamond. However, the Outfield Chaser WILL be allowed in the area in front of the bunt-line. Interesting, huh?

Mojo Kickball 8 - 'Mojo of the Minds' Sunday, Sep 10 - at 05:30 PM Krieg Softball Complex (Lefty) , Field #7,#8,#5 or next available.

Last game (11-14-15) had some interesting firsts: We had a lot more first-timers than experienced players, and we had more scrapes and bumps than all of the other Mojo Kickballs combined. Careful out there! We've added some additional base rules to keep Mojo Kickball a non-contact sport, so look for that this next game. Personally I think it's the curse of Field #9, which we were forced to play on because all of the other fields were occupied.
We will as always try to get field #7 first, but look for the flourescent signs on the chain-link fence and 6 kickballs on the pitchers mound if you really want to be sure where we're at.

This next game we plan on explaining the game at 5:45pm sharp, and we have a brand new demonstration method to explain the game. So experienced players - show up on time 'cause I might need you to help demonstrate. I think it will help make things easier for people to understand -- and quickly.

Also, we'll be taking donations for the first Mojo Kickball lit-field game. For $50, we can reserve a lit field schedule a weekday game at night, and out of this damnedable heat.

Mojo Kickball 7 - 'Pirates of the Mojo-bbean' Sunday, Aug 27 - at 06:00 PM Krieg Softball Complex (Lefty) , Field #7,#8,#5 or next available.

Mojo Kickball™ is in high-gear and we're looking to increase our frequency of games. This past game was an amazing 3-team round-robin match up that ended in a close 18 - 19 - 20 score. Doesn't get much closer than that. Thanks to all who came out. It was really refreshing to see people who had come out before leading their teams to victory, or in some cases, near-victory.

This next game is sure to be every bit as stellar. We're all looking forward to it. We're putting in the extra effort to setup:

Laminated poster boards of the "quick rules", tacked to the fence for easier viewing.
A "ball coral" that the pitcher can hold the balls in so they don't roll away.
A 3rd ref
A 3rd set of numbered pinnies. No more swapping.

Mojo Kickball 6 - 'Mojo Mutha' Sunday, Aug 13 - at 06:00 PM Krieg Softball Complex (Lefty) , Field #7,#8,#5 or next available.

That was totally amazing! This past game was fantastic. And although there happened to be a circus going on in the park that day, we were able to switch fields to field #8 and all was well.
A big welcome to the people who came out who just found us on the Internet. That was super cool.
We have word that we will be visited by the Austin American Statesman for this next game, so hopes are high that we can get this thing off the ground and have even more people ready to play this sucka.

Sorry about the lateness of the next game, but vacation and scheduling tends to get in the way of everything. But after Aug 13, you can expect us to step up the frequency of these games big-time.

Wow, what a turnout at the last one. Good lord! Ok, we are booking now. This next one promises to be fantastic. The new rules certainly make the game more dynamic for the kickers. We are talking about leagues and seeing who would be interested. Look for a league signup once everything starts to come together.

This new field is awesome!
Well, actually there are 11 fields and we have no guarantee of getting on field 6, but I was told that on Sunday's they're about half full so we're just short of guaranteed of getting any one of those kickass fields. We'll meet at field 6.

Now that Mojo Kickball™ rules are set and tested, Mojo Kickball™ is starting to take off. People are asking about it and are wanting to know how to join. There's even talk of leagues.
Like last time, bring a colored shirt and a white shirt if you can so we can setup a more cohesive looking set of teams. Right now, I have 14 Red scrimmage vests for one team.

Synopsis:

Good turn-out. Good game! Holy cow do the strategies work. The middling, semi-athletic people on Team Sweetness dominated the field favorite in a 14-2 victory, just because I picked them out as the under-dog and started telling them strategies from the website.

Nevertheless, there still need to be some small rule changes I think in order to make this game a little higher scoring next time.

If you missed the last Mojo Kickball™, then this is the one you are going to want to go to. The rules have been fleshed out. Some rules have been taken out and replaced with rules that are much easier to enforce. Plus, "Mayhem's" back and on steroids.

Better bases, better balls, more refs, and hopefully team jerseys. (I'm waiting on shipping).
Less confusion and workshopping and more fun.

Synopsis:

Alright, our first game and no one died. Bonus.
As you might have imagined, the whole fiasco was wonderfully chaotic, with 22 people all running in confused pandemonium for half of the game, and then running around in a lucid pandemonium for the other half. The scores were low and the rules needed some changing. But fortunately, I already had some of the new rules in my back pocket for just such an occasion. The next game with the new rules promises to be truly legendary.
